Wines
Scarpantoni Estate wines are classically ‘McLaren Vale’ in style, particularly the reds in being generous, mouth-filling, full of ripe fruit flavours and regional characteristics. The Scarpantoni range of wines covers a wide spectrum, from crisp dry Sauvignon Blancs, Chardonnays and Rosé, to full bodied Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and fortified wines. Over the past three decades the wines have amassed an enviable collection of well over 500 wine show awards, included the most prized of all in Australia, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show in 2007.If a single wine had to be chosen that most wine lovers know Scarpantoni Estate for it would have to be the School Block, so named as part of the Scarpantoni Estate winery and vineyards are on the site of an old School in McLaren Flat. The School Block is a full-bodied red blend of McLaren Vale Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that is reliably smooth and always more than approachable right from release, yet will age gracefully in the medium term for those who can wait. In South Australia, the home state of Scarpantoni Estate Wines, and in many of the other states of Australia it is a permanent fixture on many restaurant and café wine lists as each release is reliably full of the flavours that the McLaren Vale region has become known for at a very reasonable price. It almost defines the often over-used used wine term: ‘drinkability’.
